‘Swami Abhedananda Chair Professor’ position in Indian Philosophy/Sanskrit – 18 Aug 2018

Applications are invited for the position of ‘Swami Abhedananda Chair Professor’ instituted by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, at the Department of Sanskrit and Philosophy in Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), at its Belur Math main campus.

Qualifications essential:

  1. Areas of specialisation: Indian Philosophy/Sanskrit (preferably Vedanta/Nyaya)
  2. At least 10 years’ experience as Professor at the University level/Research experience in any standard Institute
  3. Publications of high standard in national/international journals
  4. Books/Book Chapters on Indian philosophy and related subjects
  5. Proficiency in Sanskrit and English (Bengali also—preferable)
  6. Age: 65 – 70

The position is initially for one year with effect from 1 October 2018, extendable further, based on annual evaluation/assessment. The selected candidate will have to necessarily stay on campus at the Belur main campus of the University for the period of professorship to help in reinforcing and strengthening teaching and research in Indian Philosophy and Sanskrit through publishing books and papers in these areas, guiding research fellows, organizing seminars and symposia at the national and international levels, devising procedures to spread awareness in these areas among the public in general and intellectuals in particular, etc. A consolidated honorarium of Rs.50000/- per month (with no other allowances) will be paid to the Chair Professor besides providing working facilities like a faculty room/office space, computer with internet, research fellowship for scholars who will work with the Professor, non-teaching staff (to be shared with the Department). Facilities for lodging and boarding will be made available on the campus against nominal charges.
