National Seminar on Sports Science and Yoga – 9-10 Mar 2018
Department of Sports Science and Yoga, RKMVERI, Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal organizes NATIONAL SEMINAR on ‘Recent Trends: Research in Sports Science and Yoga’ under the aegis of the UNESCO Chair in ‘Inclusive Adapted Physical Education and Yoga’.

Sports science is emerging as an independent interdisciplinary area in higher education in India. Present day developments in the discipline of Sports Science necessarily involve knowledge of hard core mathematical sciences like mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science and related subjects, besides subsuming areas like exercise physiology, mobility science, etc.
Yoga is a traditional Indian practice that has evolved to a great extent over the centuries. Yoga is not simply a form of physical exercise; it means the union of the individual to the higher consciousness through practice of asana, pranayama, bandha, mudra ,meditation and other yogic methods.
Practice of Yoga has the potential to improve sporting performance. Research activities in the field of Sports Science and Yoga have increased in the last few decades. Discussion on the trend of research at the international level is the need of the hour to prepare a road map for the future.
The Department of Sports Science and Yoga at RKMVERI, Belur, is organizing a two-day seminar to discuss recent developments in these academic and professional fields to create awareness among higher education stakeholders and encourage the youngsters to take up this discipline seriously in their pursuit of higher education. The programme looks beyond a simple discussion and includes two workshops with hands-on training and practice in sports biomechanics and Yoga.
