Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI).

Project title: Understanding the structure-function relationship of unconventional G protein YchF in Klebsiella pneumoniae and role of it in bacterial virulence and stress adaptation.

Investigator: Dr. Arnab Basu (Principal Investigator), Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Science and Technology, School of Biological Sciences RKMVERI

Project summary: This project investigates the structure–function relationship of YchF, a conserved P-loop NTPase, in Klebsiella pneumonia to understand its role in stress adaptation. YchF exhibits both ATPase and GTPase activities, which are critical for regulating its conformational dynamics and interaction with cellular partners. The ATPase function is proposed to modulate stress-responsive pathways, while the GTPase activity is linked to translation control through ribosome association. By integrating structural biology, mutational analysis, and biochemical assays, the study aims to connect nucleotide hydrolysis with functional outcomes. Evolutionary analysis will identify conserved residues underlying these activities, and ribosome interaction studies will clarify how YchF coordinates adaptive responses under stress conditions.
