The observance commemorates the displacement, loss, and pain caused by the division of the subcontinent into two separate nations—India and Pakistan. In 2024, various activities, programs, and reflections were organized across the University to remember the tragic events and the resilience of those affected.

Objective

The objective of the observance is to:

  • Honor the memories of those who suffered: Pay homage to the victims of the partition.
  • Acknowledge the historical trauma: Create awareness about the traumatic events and the human cost of the partition.
  • Promote peace and unity: Encourage reconciliation, healing, and the importance of peace to avoid such tragedies in the future.

Activities and Observance

  1. Ceremonies and Memorials:
    • At the entrance of the main administrative building of the University, Medha Bhawan, plaques and posters recounting stories of Partition as provided by UGC were displayed, emphasizing the scale of displacement and loss.
  2. Documentary Screenings:
    • Drama video as shared by UGC was uploaded in our YouTube handle and the same was shared in our website for the students to watch.
    • WhatsApp distribution of the video link was done for widespread observation of the Horrors of Partition.

Conclusion

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day 2024 successfully honored the memory of those who suffered during one of the most tragic events in the subcontinent’s history. Through a combination of display and drama sharing, the day fostered a spirit of remembrance, healing, and unity. It reminded the nation of the importance of peace and dialogue in addressing the consequences of conflict and division.
