Anti-Ragging Day observation at RKMERI, Belur Campus- 12 August 2024
Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), Belur Math, observed Anti-Ragging Day with a series of awareness programs aimed at promoting a ragging-free environment on campus. The event, held on 12th August 2024, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and administrative staff.
Objective:
The primary objective of the Anti-Ragging Day celebration was to raise awareness among students about the serious consequences of ragging and to foster a culture of respect, camaraderie, and safety. The day was marked by a reaffirmation of the institute's zero-tolerance policy towards any form of ragging, ensuring a secure and harmonious campus for all.
Highlights of the Event:
- Inaugural Speech by the Head, Department of Physics: The event commenced with an inaugural address by Asst. Prof. Bobby Ezhuthachan, HoD, Department of Physics, who emphasized the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive academic environment. He urged students to stand united against ragging and to foster a culture of friendship and mutual respect. He also talked about how ragging is a menace.
- Anti-Ragging Pledge: All students and staff members participated in an anti-ragging pledge, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus. The pledge was led by the Dean of Students, and it highlighted the importance of standing against any form of bullying or harassment. This pledge was crucial for ensuring harmony.
- Guest Lecture on Legal and Psychological Aspects of Ragging: A guest lecture was delivered by an expert on the legal ramifications and psychological impact of ragging. The speaker emphasized the strict anti-ragging laws in India, including the penalties for those found guilty of ragging, and the long-term psychological trauma it can cause to victims.
- Short Film Screening: A short film on the harmful effects of ragging and the significance of standing up against it was screened. The film depicted real-life stories and the importance of early intervention and reporting incidents to authorities.
