Admission in Dept of Sanskrit Studies

We invite applications from male candidates for the following programmes in the department of Sanskrit Studies. See the admission notice in the News section.

  • Integrated MA (BA Hons + MA)
  • Integrated PhD (MPhil + PhD)

Please note that these are all full-time courses.

Male students who will be completing the admission requirement by June of the same year are eligible to apply. Those awaiting final results may also apply on the basis of their published results so far. Preference will be given to our own students of Sanskrit.

Integrated MA

Salient Feature of the Course :-

  1. Sanskrit subjects are taught in Sanskrit medium
  2. English and Computer Application subjects are offered as General Subject along with Honors Subject
  3. Special provision for the new students to learn spoken Sanskrit and writing answers in Devanagari script in Sanskrit
  4. Attention would be towards character and conduct of the students

Eligibility: - Aspirant must have passed 10+2 (higher secondary) or equivalent examination in any faculty and should have - either minimum 55% marks in aggregate at the 10+2 (HSC) or equivalent exam or minimum 60% marks in aggregate at the secondary (Matric-SSC) exam.

Hostel, Food, Scholarship etc: -

  1. No tuition fees will be charged
  2. Hostel and food facilities are available within the Campus on payment
  3. Economically backward but intelligent students deemed fit would be given partial or complete financial assistance for hostel and food

Integrated PhD

Eligibility Requirements

  • At least 55% in MA Sanskrit. Those awaiting final results may also apply on the basis of their published results so far.
  • Fluency in Sanskrit (See notes [1], [2] & [3]).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Paninian grammar.

Details

  • Duration (1.5 years + 3 years): 1.5 years (3 semesters) including dissertation for MPhil. Only those scholars whose performance is excellent will be permitted for PhD. Further, the scholar will also have to clear a comprehensive examination. Duration of PhD will be about 3 years.
  • Fees: nominal fees will be charged with provision for scholarships.

Issue of Application Forms

Application forms are available in the links given above or can be collected in person from the university office, from 1 March, during office hours. Information in this regard may be obtained over phone no. 26549999.

Submission of Application Forms

Application forms, along with necessary certificates, can be submitted either by post or in person during office hours at the university office, together with a fee of Rs.200/- by cash or demand draft in favour of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University. An attested passport size photograph should be affixed in the application form. The applications should reach the university office by 5 May.

The admit card with the attested photograph must be retained by the candidate for the entrance examination and brought to the examination hall.

Entrance Examination and Interviews

Written entrance examination (in Sanskrit medium) on composition, comprehension and grammar on 15 May, 11 am &ndash 2 pm followed by viva-voce test. For Integrated PhD, part of the examination paper will be on the chosen topic of specialisation of the candidate from the following.

  • Veda
  • Paninian Grammar
  • Vedanta
  • Nyaya-Vaisheshika

Notes

[1] The medium of instruction as well as examinations is Sanskrit. The interaction in the classrooms, seminars, etc., should be fully in Sanskrit.

[2] The students will have to give regular scholarly expositions in Sanskrit. They are also expected to contribute regularly to the university journal Pratibhaloka.

[3] Research scholars should make original contributions to the university journals —Prajnaloka and Pratibhaloka.
